About Us
Who are we?
The Academic Association of Scientific Staff at the ETH Zurich (AVETH) represents all non-faculty scientific staff in various decision-making bodies of the ETH Zurich. We represent PhD students, research assistants, post docs, senior scientists and all other scientific employees excluding professors. Our mission is to make ETH a better place to learn, teach, do research and live for the scientific staff.
Committed AVETH members represent the scientific staff in all important ETH commissions. Besides representing political interests, AVETH wants to facilitate exchange and communication between scientific staff members by organizing career-related as well as social events.
The AVETH affiliations are autonomous sub-organizations of AVETH and pursue specific goals. International Students of ETH helps international students with various practical questions for living and working in Zurich while Telejob helps people find a job after their studies.
The Fachvereine represent the scientific staff within their department. They act as sub-organizations of AVETH und receive judicial and financial aid.
The AVETH Board organizes and coordinates all AVETH activities. Since AVETH aims at putting forth representative opinions, we need your input! Please do not hesitate to contact us!
How are we organized?
The structure within AVETH might seem to be a little complicated in the beginning
Besides the direct relation between AVETH and its members, there is also the indirect link with the members through the “Fachvereine” of the departments, which is shown in the chart. Any ETH scientific employee can sign up for an AVETH membership. Whenever a “Fachverein” exists in the depart¬ment the member belongs to, the AVETH member automatically becomes a member of this “Fachverein”. For example: a PhD in Physics that signs up for AVETH automa-tically becomes a member of AMP, the “Fachverein” for Physics. This happens as the “Fachvereine” are actually sub-organisations of AVETH.
The AVETH board consists of active AVETH members who organize and coordinate all AVETH activities and it functions as an umbrella association for the “Fachvereine”. Telejob and Internationals represent autonomous affiliations of the AVETH board and are concerned with specific goals. The presidents of the affiliations are automatically member of the AVETH board.
