  • What is AVETH?

AVETH stands for "Akademische Vereinigung des Mittelbaus der ETH Zürich", which means AVETH is the association of the non-faculty scientific staff of ETH Zurich, representing doctoral students, post docs and research assistants.
AVETH has representatives in all relevant ETH commissions and meetings in order to have an active part in decision making and to stay informed. You find more information in the section "About us".

The AVETH board is composed of several people, elected at the general assembly each year, and is in charge of all actions. The board members are the contact persons for the various ongoing projects.

 

  • What are the goals of AVETH?

The goal is to represent the interests of the scientific staff and when ever there are decisions which are related to the scientific staff AVETH is informed and their  opinion is taken into account.
Beside the political representation, AVETH tries to provide you with services and tries to strengthens the network of the AVETH members.

 

  • How do I become a member of AVETH?

If you are not yet registered as an AVETH member, please use the registration form on our homepage: Registration Form

 

  • How much is the AVETH membership fee?

The monthly AVETH membership fee is currently CHF 4.-- per month. The fee will be substracted automatically from your ETH salary, no action is needed from your side. You will find the confirmation of the paid membership fee on your monthly payment slip of ETH. There you find the line " Beitrag AVETHZ          4.00-".

 

  • I'm not sure if I'm already AVETH member. How can I find out?

Write an email to info@aveth.ethz.ch.
We will check if your are already in our member list. It is possible that there is a short delay between registration and actual becoming a member. The confirmation that you are a registered member of AVETH is if you find on your payment slip of ETH the line " Beitrag AVETHZ          4.00-".

 

  • I realized that I'm AVETH member but my colleagues from the "Fachverein" of my department  do not have me on their member list. How is this possible?

We are sorry for the inconvenience, it may happen that the synchronization of the databases do not work properly. Please contact us  (link)with your problem. We try to update the member status as fast as possible.

 

  • Why is there AVETH and in addition a "Fachverein"at my department? Where do I belong? 

AVETH represents the non-faculty scientific staff on an ETH-wide level, while the "Fachverein" is a sub-section of AVETH for at the department level. "Fachvereine" are building the link between the AVETH (ETH-wide level) and the scientific staff working in the departments. If you are member of AVETH and there exists a "Fachverein" in your department, you are automatically a member of that "Fachverein" too. The "Fachverein" gets the uptodate member list in periodical intervals.

- AVETH does the membership management for the "Fachvereine"

- AVETH provides judicial aid

- The "Fachverein" gets part of the membership fees from AVETH (currently 50%)

- A "Fachverein" does not want to compete with AVETH but should rather be complementary to it.

  •  It seems that no active "Fachverein" exists in my department. Where can I get more information?

Is there an existing one at your department? Please use the information provided on their homepage and let them know that you are alive ;-)

No, there is no "Fachverein" listed? - It is up to you to start a new "Fachverein": Gather with some colleagues, it is very difficult to launch a "Fachverein" and keep it alive on you own, and contact us.

We will support you, in terms of money and organisational. In addition, if you have questions, colleagues from the already existing "Fachvereine" will certainly help you and give you hints and tips.

 

  • What is the difference between AVETH and VSETH?

AVETH stands for 'Akademische Vereinigung des Mittelbaus an der ETH Zürich' and represents the scientific staff (including doctorate students) on an ETH-wide level.

VSETH stands for 'Verband der Studierenden an der ETH' and represents the undergraduate students on an ETH-wide level.

 

  • I would like to contact AVETH: How can I get in touch with you?

If you have a general question use the contact which is given in the section "Contact" (link to Contact) on the right top of this homepage.

If you have specific question have a look to the board (link to the board) of the AVETH and choose the person which fits best to your question.

 

  • I'm interested in the work of AVETH. Is there a possibility to have a first look and meet the people from the AVETH board?

You are welcomed to visit us any time, with out any commitments . The best opportunity to get in touch with us and see what and how we work, is to come to one of our monthly board meetings. Contact the secretary (link) and ask for the date of the next board meeting.

 

  • I have an idea and I would like to start an AVETH project or organize an event. How and where do I begin and set up the things? 

The AVETH board is always happy about new ideas and projects. The input from people outside of the board is therefore of great interest. The best way to proceed is to announce your idea by phone or email (link) and then come to the next monthly board meeting to present your idea to the board.

 

  • Are there open positions?

If you want to become an active member of AVETH, we are very happy, because there always a lot of things that need to be done. Contact us (link) and you will get information about open positions and how to get in touch with the AVETH board.
