Martin studied Biology, Bio- and Neuroinformatics before graduating in Neuroscience at the University of Zurich. He is now a doctoral student in the group of Isabelle Mansuy at the Brain Research Institute. His interest is to elucidate the influence of the environment on behavior, and how interacting environmental, genetic and epigenetic factors can modulate behavioral responses across generations. Besides AVETH he is also the event coordinator of reatch (research and technology in switzerland).

Betty did her Master's in Regenerative Biology and Medicine in Dresden, Germany. There she started focusing on bioinformatic data analysis. Subsequently, she started her PhD in the field of proteomics at the Institute of Molecular Systems Biology, where she mainly works on big data analysis to reveal new insights in cancer biology.
Betty is also active in the Department Association of the D-BIOL – AMB.

Fabian started studying chemistry at ETH Zurich in 2010 and completed his studies with a master’s degree in September 2015. During his studies he spent half a year at Uppsala University in Sweden within the Erasmus exchange program. After an 8-month internship at the Novartis Pharma AG in Basel he started his PhD in the group of Professor Antonio Togni in the field of organometallic chemistry. He likes spending his leisure time in the mountains or with travelling. Fabian joined the AVETH board as treasurer in February 2017.

David studied BSc ETH in Interdisciplinary Sciences and MSc ETH in Physics. After graduation, he spent one year at BMW Group for its Trainee-program before starting his PhD at ETH in Particle Physics. He is part of the CERN CMS Collaboration, working on the “heart” of CMS and performing data analysis contributing to the Neutrino Minimum Standard Model. He joined Telejob in 2016 and was elected as president in 2017.

Christos holds a diploma in Mechanical Engineering from National Technical University of Athens and MSc in Robotics, Systems and Control from ETH Zurich. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the Chair of Risk, Safety and Uncertainty Quantification where he is developing machine learning-based algorithms for risk analysis of engineering systems. He is also a core developer of the UQLab software, developed by the Chair. He joined Telejob in 2016 where he led the IT department until 2017 and got elected as co-chairman in 2018.

Roger Stark studied electrical engineering and information technology at ETH Zurich. During his time as a student, he participated in the Erasmus student exchange program at the Imperial College London.
From November 2012 to November 2013, he was member of the VSETH board. Since April 2015, he has worked as a scientific assistant at the Advanced Power Semiconductor Laboratory focusing on the electrical characterization of power semiconductor devices. He joined Telejob in 2017 and was elected as treasurer.

Claire studied aerospace and mechanical engineering in ISAE-Supaéro (Toulouse, France) and TU Berlin (Germany). Within her PhD she works on industry-relevant aeroacoustic problems, with focus on acoustic damping devices, using joint experimental, numerical and theoretical approaches. Claire is also active in the Department Association of the D-MAVT – AV@MAVT.

Roelinda is currently doing her PhD in the Human Nutrition Laboratory. She works on biofortification of staple crops to improve child micronutrient status in low- and middle-income countries. She obtained her master’s degree in the Netherlands at Wageningen University, in the field of Nutritional Physiology and Public Health. Before starting her PhD, she worked at the Nestle Research Center in Lausanne. Roelinda joined the AVETH board in March 2017, as a member of the event team in which she mainly organizes her favorite sport activity, Skiing!

Michael studied physics at the university of Oxford where he was involved in multiple student associations. Since 2015 he has been a PhD student at ETHZ where his research has focused on transport properties in semiconductor nano- and micro-structures. He joined the D-PHYS department association (AMP) as a board member in 2016 and has been on the AVETH counselling team since 2017.
Alina is currently doing her PhD in Aging research (Biology) at the ETH and is interested in the influence of the extracellular matrix on the aging process. She joined AVETH in March 2017 as a member of the Counseling Team. Before she moved to Switzerland for her PhD she studied Biology in Cologne (Germany), where she was active in the students union and the mentoring programme for freshmen.

Iselin Medhaug did her Phd in Climate Dynamics at the University in Bergen in Norway. After a postdoc in Bergen and at Imperial College London she came to ETH Zurich as a postdoc in 2014, and is now a lecturer and a senior scientist in climate physics. She joined the AVETH board in September 2017.

Deepak comes to ETH Zurich after two years working at CSIR, a contemporary R&D organization in India. As a Swiss Federal Scholar, his interests lies in developing neuromuscular models towards the goal of fall prediction in older adults. He joined AVETH in September 2017, as member of communications team.

Tanja studied Nutritional Sciences and Molecular Biology at University of Vienna. In January 2017, she started her PhD at the Institute of Molecular Health Sciences at ETH where she is focusing on metabolic pathways on an organellar level via various in vitro and in vivo assays. Additionally, Tanja is also active in AMB, the departments association of D-Biol.

Nina studied Biochemistry at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany with a focus in NMR and X-ray crystallography of macromolecular complexes. During her studies, she was a member of the Biochemistry student association for four years. She started her PhD in 2013 as a member of the Biomolecular Structure and Mechanism PhD program, working on a collaborative project between the ETH and Novartis Institute of Biomedical Research (NIBR) in Basel. After spending the first two years of her PhD at NIBR, she moved to the Department of Molecular Biology and Biophysics at the ETH.

Irena is currently doing her PhD at ETH in the field of systems biology. She works on modelling of biological systems and on development of novel parameter inference methods. She obtained her masters degree at ETH and bachelor degree at Jacobs University Bremen in Germany, both in the field of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. In her free time Irena enjoys dancing salsa and lindy hop.

Romain is a PhD from the Computer Engineering and Networks Lab since October 2015. He is developping Real-Time Communication protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks. Before that, he studied Mechanical Engineering and Automation at the ENS Cachan, France. There, he was actively involved in students representation and university committees. Romain joined the AVETH board in March 2016, as member of the Politics Team. He also gives a hand to the Communication Team.

Flavia is a PhD student in the Department of Physics. She started her doctoral research in 2015 in the Grange group. She focuses on optics and photonics, with the aim to manipulate the light at the nanoscale using nanostructured nonlinear materials. Flavia did her Master in Physics at ETH Zurich, where she studied electrons transport in 2D structures at low temperature.

Diyora completed her Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics at ETH Zurich. Currently she is doing here PhD in the Department of Mathematics in the fields of analysis of stochastic differential equations and stochastic optimization algorithms. Anastasia Sycheva had her first degree from the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics at the Lomonosov Moscow State University.
She came to Switzerland in 2012 for her master studies in Statistics in ETHZ. Upon writing her thesis in the Risk Lab ETHZ she did an internship in an industry. Later she returned to ETHZ to do a PhD in the group of Professor Wanda Mimra in Risk and Insurance Economics.

Andrea studied Materials Engineering and Nanotechnology at the Polytechnic University of Milan. After graduating in 2015, he worked for two year in the R&D department of an Italian automotive company. He decided to move to Switzerland for a PhD in October 2017, and he is now part of the Soft and Living Materials group (D-MATL), working with active droplets and on the materials properties of out of equilibrium systems. He joined AVETH in December 2017 and he is part of the Communication Team.
Neural Control of Movement Lab
Rea Lehner earned her PhD in Neuroscience at the Neural Control of Movement Lab at ETH Zurich in March 2018. She is now a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology as well as a Scientific Coordinator for the 3rd programme of the Singapore ETH Centre. Her focus of research is how the brain controls movements and how this process can be modulated for example with rewards. She joined the AVETH board in February 2018.

Michèle studied Sinology and East-Asian Art History at the University of Zurich and focused her studies on Tang-Dynasty textiles for her diploma paper. Since June 2001, she has taken care of the AVETH office with a 30% working contract. Her major tasks are administrating the AVETH member files, dealing with all kinds of correspondences, accounting, composing meeting records, organizing member assemblies, and the day-to-day office business.
