Why do we sleep? Next edition of the AVETH Book club in August
In the next edition of the AVETH Book club, we will discuss Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams by Matthew Walker. Itwill take place on Thursday 29th August in AVETH room in ETH Zentrum (SOL B4), starting at 18:30.
In this book, neuroscientist and sleep expert Matthew Walker provides a revolutionary exploration of sleep, examining how it affects every aspect of our physical and mental well-being. Going through cutting-edge scientific breakthroughs and his decades of research and clinical practice, Walker explains how we can harness sleep to improve learning, mood and energy levels, regulate hormones, prevent cancer, Alzheimer’s and diabetes, slow the effects of aging, and increase longevity. He also provides actionable steps towards getting a better night’s sleep every night.
After the discussion, we will head to a restaurant for dinner and a drink that will be covered by AVETH for ETH staff. Please register via this link: https://forms.gle/3rkh9rH14NSb17pk8
If you can’t join this time but would like to be added to the bookclub mailing list, feel free to contact us here: https://groups.google.com/g/aveth-book-club.
Ideally, for the sake of a fruitful discussion, the participants should read at least partially the book in advance. We will in any case provide an initial context of the author and the book, before moving to a flexible discussion alongside snacks.
Have a good summer and happy readings
