UASAZ Movie Screening “Carol of the Bells” (“Shchedryk”)

Christmas is approaching fast and “Carol of the Bells” can be heard everywhere you go! But not everyone knows that one of the most scintillating and enlightening Christmas carols is the Ukrainian song “Shchedryk” with music from Mykola Leontovych.

Mykola Leontovych’s legendary “Shchedryk” gave the movie its name and became a symbol of light, faith, and hope for the best. Join us to watch “Carol of the Bells” (“Shchedryk”) on December 15, directed by Olesya Morgunets.

The film tells the story of three families: Ukrainians, Poles, and Jews. They were united by a common grief – the change from the repressive system of the USSR to the punitive system of the Third Reich. The Ukrainian “Shchedryk” singing united the children from these families. The song’s warmth warmed kids throughout their lives, even in times of suffering and re-education.

The relevance of the film’s topic has united a large community of like-minded people, those who sincerely love Ukraine, want to know its history and remember all the trials on the way to the longed-for independence.
